Enjoy your Summer on a Budget

Now that the weather is staying hot, it's time to make the most of it and put some summer plans in place.
But we know that things are getting expensive making it harder to have fun on a budget, and it can be tempting to stay in to save a few pounds. However, we’ve got a few fun ideas to make sure your summer is full of fun without blowing your budget.

Adults sports day

Everyone loves a good old game of rounders or an egg and spoon race, it's been a while since we’ve done any of these, so why not crack out the old sports day games and have a bit of sporty fun. You could even throw in a drinking game like beer pong, or make up your own games. Either way, it's a great way to have fun for less, all you need is a garden or a park and see if you can dig out a bat and a ball from the shed.

Outdoor movie night

Throw a movie night with your friends, set up camp outside with picnic blankets, a few cushions, a cosy throw, and watch a movie. You could have a theme night where you make your way through a movie franchise, or stick to one genre and pick a couple of your favourite films. You could sign up for a free trial of a streaming service like Amazon Prime, Disney+, or Now TV and see what's on offer without spending a penny. You could even have a movie night premiere with loads of new films being released straight to streaming services, just grab a bag of popcorn from the supermarket and get comfy.  Or is there a tv show you’ve been meaning to watch for ages but not got round to watching yet? Make an event of it and binge a few episodes with friends, or watch the finale together.

Bring a dish night - food theme

Rather than eating out with friends, eat-in. Give your night a food theme and ask everyone to bring one homemade dish. For example, do a Mexican night, and get everyone to bring guacamole, salsa, nachos, tortillas, burritos, tacos, and quesadillas, and top it all off with a few margaritas.  Make your way through different cuisines each week and make the most of the long days of July and August.

Or combine the movie night with bringing a dish night, watch Cast Away and make everyone bring one dish they’d take if stuck on a desert island, or watch the Mamma Mia films and have a Greek food themed night, watch Grease and have milkshakes and American food like hot dogs and mac n cheese. The possibilities are endless, it's an easy way to spend time with friends, eat great food, and enjoy the warm summer evenings.

Classic Picnic

If you don't have an outdoor space, then there's always the option to head to a local park and take yourself a picnic. Supermarkets have loads of summer picnic food deals at the moment with a great range of picky bits to enjoy. Make the most of the weather and get some vitamin d whilst enjoying a little mezze of picnic treats.

Start a Book club

If you’re a fan of books, then you may have made it onto ‘BookTok’, the part of TikTok that recommends the best new books. There are also Instagram pages that do the same, as well as the usual best sellers lists, Amazon is a great place to see what's selling well at the moment. So, why not make the most of the weather, set up outside, and start sharing and discussing the latest books you’ve read with your friends.

Breakfast on the beach

We know, everyone heads to the beach in summer, which can be off-putting for some people. However, one way to beat the traffic and the hustle and bustle is to head down super early and set up camp on the beach before the crowds start making their way down.  Take with you a flask of tea or coffee and a few breakfast bits like pastries or if you really want, go the whole hog and bring with you a portable cooker and rustle up a cooked breakfast. Bask in the morning sunshine and take a dip in the sea, then head back before the crowds start to swarm.

We hope this has given you a bit of inspiration to get your summer plans started without spending a fortune to have fun.
